During the Spay and Neuter campaign, we came across a small neighborhood. There, we found a little puppy. He had a collar around his waist and couldn’t walk because of it, which was very sad to see. They were very dirty and covered in fleas, and they had worms. So, I asked the people there if we could take him with us. Then we saw another puppy. The mother was also there, so we asked if we could take her too, to get her spayed and then bring her back that day or the day after, depending on how she was doing. Eventually, we asked around the neighborhood to see which other dogs we could take for spaying or neutering.
I went to pick up another dog and someone tapped on the window of the car, showing us another puppy. We ended up with three puppies. We took them with us and continued catching stray dogs. We had nowhere to go with the puppies, so I took them home. When the mother was spayed, I thought it was important for her to rest properly. So, I visited the people and asked if I could keep the mother with me for a while. They said, "Oh yes, take her as long as you want."
I made two separate kennels. The puppies could eat on their own but could still nurse a bit from the mother, which we were gradually stopping. The mother needed as much rest as possible. They were next to each other, so they could sniff each other but not nurse. I noticed something protruding from the mother's belly, which worried me. So, I took her to the vet. It turned out to be an umbilical hernia. They patched it up a bit, and it needed rest to heal. She wasn’t in pain. At first, she was very shy, but as she stayed with me, she developed a strong bond with me. We went for walks together.
As the campaign progressed, we unfortunately got three more pitbull puppies. Two of their siblings had already died, which was sad. I couldn’t bring them back there because they would poison them. The garage was full with different doggies.
Then I got some sad news that my grandmother was suddenly very sick. We needed to arrange everything to catch the flight that day because it was tense and we didn't know if we would see her still alive. I cried so hard because she means the world to me and I needed to leave all the doggies behind.
Bright Momma had to return to the address where she came from. A special thanks to Mercedes de Windt from Animal Defenders because she is always my partner in crime. A forever thanks to Bill who agreed to take care of the three pitbull puppies and they needed to go there. The other animals we cared for we had to bring to the other side of the island.
Also, a big thanks to Stefy who picked up the Saf accessories and is selling them in her new store in Simpson Bay. With the great help of Vera and Floris, we managed everything and caught the flight on the same day. Forever thankful for this all.
Twenty hours later, we arrived at my grandmother's place. We were on time to attend the bedside vigil. We spent the night with her, and then she passed away peacefully. Forever in our heart, we love you so much!
A few weeks later all 3 white pups got adopted.
Snow is staying on the island at the France side,
Chang moved to the US and Singha flew to New Jersey.
