🩵 Modelo & Cariba 🩷
For several days, we've been monitoring two puppies situated in a grim location under a large trash container. One night, we only saw one of them, all alone. We wondered if the other one was still alive. The next day, we were relieved to see both of them eagerly devouring the food we left out. After inspecting their teeth and determining their independence from their mother, whom we had never seen, we noticed their ears were barely visible due to the abundance of ticks.
I approached a woman who lived nearby, but she had no idea who the pups belonged to. I showed her their ears, wounds, and fleas, emphasizing the need for care, which she agreed with.
As I was writing a note asking if anyone objected to us picking up the pups in the evening, we narrowly avoided being hit by a truck. Unlike the typical Caribbean work ethic, this man swiftly connected the trash container to his truck. We managed to retrieve the pups just in time, and soon they were in our car and later under our shower.
They lived with us for seven weeks. When we took them in, they looked so battered, covered in dirty ticks, but today they have grown into friendly, beautiful dogs. We've had so much fun with them, taking daily trips to the beach and gently playing with our little daughter Ozéa. Every three weeks, we took them to the vet for vaccinations. They flew with us to Amsterdam and later traveled with us by car to Maastricht, where they now live with their forever families!
